Reflexology with Chris Wharton MAR
I trained at the Pathways School of Reflexology in Norwich, becoming a full member of the Association of Reflexologies. Having worked in Clinic, I have recently set up my practice in Suffolk and regularly attend courses to update and extend my knowledge of this widely beneficial therapy.
I have treated many patients with varied disorders and have used reflexology to help people before and after operations.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology activates the healing powers of the body and is based on the principle that the entire body is represented in reflexes in the hands and feet; treating the whole person and not just the symptoms of disease. The reflexes are understood to be linked to specific areas of the body through a network of invisible energy pathways known as zones and illness, stress or weakness in the body is mirrored in the corresponding areas on the feet.
What can Reflexology do?
Reflexology brings relief to a very wide range of acute and chronic conditions and it suitable for all ages; from a tiny baby with teething troubles; when recovering from surgery, accident or illness; coping with life-threatening diseases, or just the aches and pains that age can bring. It assists and improves the efficent working of the body, thereby reducing the likelihood of disease and appears to do so in the following ways:
- reduces stress and induces relaxation
- improves the circulation of blood and lymph fluids
- cleanes the body of impurities
- revitalises energy and frees energy pathways in the body
- balances the whole system
What happens in a treatment?
It is necessary to work on bare feet or hands, but no other clothing needs to be removed and it tis suggested, for your relaxation, that you wear something loose and comfortable. You will be asked to lie comfortably on a treatment couch or reclining chair while your feet or hands are gently treated, perhaps listening to some soft music.
The first treatment will usually take about an hour and a half, with follow-up appointments lasting about an hour. As we look at each person as an individual, you will be asked a few questions about yourself, your health and your lifestyle, to help build up a picture for treatment.
Reflexology has been shown to be effective in the following disorders:
- Back, shoulder and knee
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Eye conditions
- Gynaecological idsorders
