Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST)

BCST is a gentle hands-on therapy that you receive fully clothed, without any oil, kneading or pressure whilst resting in a comfortable position on a massage table. Pillows and/or blankets are often provided for your total comfort. BCST has its roots in Cranial Osteopathy and works with balancing the fluid fluctuations of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that bathes the central nervous system and gives rise to our overall state of health and wellbeing. It is often a very relaxing therapy to receive and patients report sensations of floating, tingling, warmth, deep relaxation accompanied by a sense of ‘being back in their body’.

The touch helps to reconnect you with your embodied sense of self and facilitates the release of trapped forces – sometimes letting go of tension you didn’t even know you were holding on to, releasing patterns of pain or emotions held in the tissues from events way back in childhood or from traumas that could not be fully processed at the time. It is a Somatic therapy (Soma means ‘of the body’ specifically perceived from within) and also a relational field therapy that takes into account your whole being – interpersonal, physical, spiritual and psycho-emotional. Think of it like a guided meditation focussed on clarifying your relationship to feelings and sensations with the added support of therapeutic touch and sacred witness.

Jade will make light contact and gently support you, often cradling your head (the Cranium) or contacting the base of your spine (the Sacrum – this is where the therapy gets its name from) she will also work with any other part of your body that needs support. The contact is very specific yet multidimensional. Jade listens through her touch taking into account the structure and organisation of your bones and tone of your connective tissues (the Fascia) which can have huge effects on postural alignment and physical comfort. She feels the quality of your organs and can detect blockages that may be present and she also listens to the way that your fluids (blood, lymph and CSF) are circulating and help to augment their natural flow.

“Our biology carries our biography - everything that we have ever experienced is through the medium of our body. In the presence of a dedicated listener, stories from unmet parts of ourselves get the opportunity to be met, felt, expressed and honoured. It is in the feeling that resolution can be found. Once we have been seen and have had the opportunity to be acknowledged at this deep level of beingness then the natural cycle can complete and pain relinquishes its occupancy in our system.”

Who can benefit?

BCST is so gentle that it can be received by anyone who wants to support their health at any stage of life. As it assists the natural healing process and supports the inherent intelligence of your system so anything can be met be it physical, emotional, chronic or acute. It can be amazing to receive alongside counselling and psychotherapy as a somatic component and can also assist in the efficacy of homeopathic or herbal medicine treatments.

Conditions that can benefit include:

  • muscular or joint pain
  • lower back and neck pain
  • postural misalignment
  • sciatica
  • post-operative rehabilitation
  • frozen shoulder
  • jaw pain (TMJ disorder)
  • tinnitus
  • inflammation (arthritis, colitis etc)
  • chronic fatigue (ME) and fibromyalgia
  • digestive issues (IBS etc)
  • autoimmune disorders
  • migraines and headaches
  • sleep disturbance and restless leg syndrome
  • hormone imbalances
  • peri/menopause, PMS and endometriosis
  • anxiety, burnout and stress

The therapy is safe, and fully centred in your comfort and consent and entirely non-invasive. It is well-known for its amazing effect on mothers and babies both pre and postpartum and can help with settling sleep disturbance, feeding, and lactation, digestion and head formation. Because the therapy works by bringing us back into relationship with the body it can also improve issues with self-image and resilience. It naturally helps your system to self-regulate by recognising your original blueprint for health.
